Aleppo, Syria− The regime air force bombed several neighbourhoods in the city of Aleppo, north Syria. Dozens of casualties among civilians were reported after two days of continuous bombardment that included populated residential areas.

Syrian lawyer Ismail Aziz, based in Aleppo city, told ARA News on Wednesday that the Syrian air force raided on al-Muyassar district in the city and bombarded a number of residential buildings, killing at least 16 civilians.

“Pro-Assad air force has also carried out an attack against al-Sha’ar neighbourhood in Aleppo. At least one civilian was killed and several others were injured,” Aziz said. “We could not yet confirm exact numbers of casualties.”

The Syrian army launched a crackdown against Khan al-Asal neighbourhood on Wednesday by use of artillery shells, local activists reported.

On the other hand, fierce clashes broke out between rebels of the Islamic Front and the pro-Assad army in Aleppo’s countryside on Tuesday. Sources said that the clashes continued until Wednesday evening, but no information was provided on the potential numbers of casualties of the rebels-Syrian army clashes.

According to sources, regime-linked snipers, stationed on several buildings in Karaj al-Hajez area in southern Aleppo, targeted civilians. “More than 4 residents of the area were seriously injured,” local sources told ARA News.

In a linked development, al-Nusra Front −Qaeda affiliated group− issued a statement earlier this week saying that its fighters killed “many pro-Assad soldiers” who were based in al-Meidaan neighbourhood in Aleppo.

Shelling and clashes continue in the Syrian northern city of Aleppo amid ongoing peace talks between representatives of the Syrian regime and the opposition in Geneva, Switzerland.
