Qamishli, Syria− Al-Qaeda splinter group of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) executed on Saturday a young man in Shaddadi town south of Hasakah, northeast Syria.
According to local sources, the victim (Manaf Haj Raja) had defected the Syrian army last week.
Mohammad al-Ahmad, a local activist, told ARA News that members of ISIL executed Raja due to not pledging allegiance to the “fundamentalist ISIL group and joining its ranks”.
“The order of this execution came after a campaign of arrests and night raids launched by ISIL against the youth in the southern countryside of Hasaka,” said al-Ahmad. “The targets are suspected of having links with the rebels of the Free Syrian Army (FSA)”.
Earlier on Friday, the city of Shaddadi witnessed clashes between the FSA rebels ISIL militants, ended with the rebels’ control over the city’s countryside.
