Deir ez-Zor, Syria – Members of the Qaeda splinter group of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) demolished on Monday civilians’ houses in Gharbiya village near al-Sour town in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, in eastern Syria.

Fayiz Abdul-Aziz, a local activist based in Deir al-Zor city, told ARA News that the ISIL demolished a number of houses which belonged to residents of Gharbiya village near al-Sour town on charges of supporting anti-ISIL groups (in reference to opposition groups which fight against ISIL in northern and eastern areas of Syria).

“Militants of ISIL controlled the town of al-Sour nearly one week ago after clashes with fighters of al-Nusra Front, Ahrar al-Sham Movement and other Islamic rebel groups. Sporadic clashes have continued between the two sides,” Abdul-Aziz said.

Noteworthy, the Qaeda splinter group of the ISIL controls the province of Raqqa entirely, beside areas in Aleppo, Hasaka and Deir al-Zor. In order to gain more control, ISIL group has reportedly engaged in clashes with the armed opposition groups (including Islamic divisions) and with the Kurdish forces of the Popular Protection Units (YPG).

According to local sources, fierce clashes erupted between fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) −backed by Islamic divisions− and regime forces in the vicinity of the Military Airport of Deir ez-Zor. Rebel groups also targeted the airport with Grad rockets.

Meanwhile, Zighayir Jazeera village in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor saw clashes between two tribal groups due to rifts regarding the control over oil extraction plants −which fall under the control of local tribes and rebel groups after the regime forces lost control over most of the oil fields in the area. 6 tribal fighters from both sides lost their lives.
