Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan – Hundreds of Syrian demonstrated on Friday in the city of Vienna, the capital of Austria, against “the practices” of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Syrian areas which fall under its military and security forces, and against the conduction of the Syrian presidential elections in June.

The demonstrators condemned the arresting and expelling of Kurdish activists and rival politicians by the “PYD de facto authority”, and expressed their refusal of the presidential elections planned on the 3rd of next June.

Speaking to ARA News, activist Doran Bashar, said that the demonstration came at the invitation of the organization of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria (KDPS) in Europe, adding that hundreds of Syrian Kurds and Arabs living in Austria participated in the demonstration.

“The demonstration started in front of the Syrian embassy and proceeded to the Greek embassy, as Greece holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for 2014, to deliver it a letter regarding their refusal to the presidential elections which will be held by the Syrian government, beside their condemnation to the practices of the PYD de facto authority against activists and politicians in Syria’s Kurdish areas,” Bashar said.

The Kurdish flag was raised in the demonstration next to the flag of the Syrian Revolution, while the demonstrators carried photos of victims of the peaceful protests which began in 2011 and called for the overthrow of the Syrian regime and freedom for Syria.

Noteworthy, a similar protest took place last week in the capital city of Germany, Berlin, to condemn what the participants called “the practices of the PYD de facto authority against Kurdish activists”.
