Urfa, Turkey – A 12-year-old boy was reported dead and dozens of civilians injured in Qaze Eli village in the western countryside of Tel Abyad city, north of Syria on Monday, as a mortar shell targeted a crowded neighbourhood in the village.

Local sources said that militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) targeted the Kurdish village of Qaze Eli with a mortar shell, causing the death of Hamoudi Abdullah, 12, and the injury of his 3-year-old brother, Shyar, in the neck.

Talking to ARA News on the phone, A. S., an eyewitness, added: “Two other children were injured, Muhammed Fathi and Jiwan Muslim, beside many others who were transferred to al-Amal Hospital in the nearby city of Kobane.”

Meanwhile, the ISIL group is still holding the 150 Kurdish students who were captured nearly two weeks ago while on their way from Aleppo city (where they performed middle-school exams) to their hometown of Kobane. The detained students are held in a detention center in Manbij city, north of Aleppo, according to local sources.
