Qamishli, Syria – On Thursday, the Syrian Foreign Ministry announced that the Syrian Arab Republic reaffirmed its commitment to stand by its citizens in Kobane and was working to strengthen “the heroic resistance against the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) group)”. The Ministry also emphasized the necessity of preserving the unity of Syria’s land and people.

In an official statement, the Syrian FM pointed out that the Turkish government showed its intentions towards the Syrian Republic by allowing “terrorists” to enter the city of Kobane.

“The Turkish government confirms once again its complicity and blatant interference in Syrian affairs by allowing foreign forces (referring to the Peshmerga forces who headed to Kobane recently) and the terrorist militants to enter the Syrian territory,” the Ministry said.

“This act (entry of Peshmerga and other Islamist militants into Syria) constitutes a clear violation to the Syrian sovereignty and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the norms of international law,” the statement added.

The ministry pointed out that there is no doubt about the links between the ruling Justice and Development Party in Turkey and terrorist organizations, “particularly the organization of the Islamic State and the al-Nusra Front”.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry statement clarified that the Turkish government has revealed its sinister intentions against the unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic “by trying to exploit the situation in Kobane to pass its expansive agenda by demanding the establishment of a buffer zone on Syrian territory”.

This comes two days after the Minister of National Reconciliation Affairs in the Syrian regime, Ali Haider, stated in an interview with Rudaw TV that the entry of the Peshmerga forces to assist and support the Syrian Kurdish fighters is a “national step”, adding that they support any move aimed to defeat IS group, and the arrival of the Peshmerga to Kobane is deemed an important step in the war against IS extremists.
