Suruc, Turkey – About 36 militants of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) were killed during clashes with factions of Burkan al-Furat Operations Chamber (which include the YPG and rebels of the FSA) in several neighborhoods of the embattled city of Kobane (Ain al-Arab) in Aleppo province, northern Syria.

The Media Office of al-Akrad Front brigade (one of the FSA-linked factions within al-Furat Chamber) stated to ARA News that fighters from the rebels of Raqqa, Fajr al-Hurriya, al-Akrad Front brigades and the YPG defeated IS militants in sporadic clashes in neighborhoods of Kobane on Thursday.

Being backed by the Peshmerga forces, the defending fighters in Kobane forced the IS militants to withdraw from several neighborhoods of the city, after losing 36 members of the radical group.

Speaking to ARA News, officials in the al-Akrad Media Center said that the clashes centered in Kanya Kurda district, al-Baladiya Street and Azadi Square in the eastern parts of the city.

“The joint forces of Burkan al-Furat also carried out an attack against the IS headquarters in the villages of Bagdik and Kara Moog (15 km east of Kobane), causing casualties in the ranks of the group as well as the destruction of military vehicles used by the extremists,” the source added

At the southern side of the city, several other IS militants were killed, according to the media office of al-Akrad Front.

The radical group has also withdrawn from the village of Mazar Ibroush west of Kobane, following attacks by the Kurdish forces and other factions of Burkan al-Furat.

“The high degree of coordination between the various anti-IS forces in Kobane was the main reason for the recent developments,” a Kurdish fighter from the YPG told ARA News

Dr. Mohamed Arif, a doctor at the field hospital in Kobane, stated to ARA News that a woman was killed and about seven civilians were injured after trying to return from the Turkish side to the Syrian territory near Tel Shaeer border point at the hands of the Turkish border guards on Thursday.

“Two of the injured were transferred to the field hospital in the city of Kobane,” Arif said.

The Islamic State group targeted districts of the city with artillery and mortar fire, while the Peshmerga forces continue to bombard the radical group’s sites in the vicinity of the city, especially in the eastern parts, with heavy artillery, Katyusha rockets and mortar shells, according to Dr. Arif.
