Erbil, Kurdistan Region – Subsequent to its control of new areas in the province of Idlib, al-Nusra Front (al-Qaeda branch in Syria) beheaded Sunday 17 members of the Syrian opposition factions after storming the village of Kawkaba in Mount Shahshabo in Idlib suburb, northwest Syria.

Nusra-linked media activist in Idlib, M. H., told ARA News that the group’s militants took control of the entire village of Faqee, killing 17 people from the village of Kawkaba and detaining 30 others.

The source pointed out that al-Nusra insurgents were able to seize several villages in the  al-Zawiya Mountain region in northwestern Syria, including Kafr Sajna, Karsaa, Kawkaba and Kafrmoos.

Mustafa al-Sayyid, an activist based in Idlib, told ARA News that after the al-Nusra militants advanced in Idlib’s countryside, “calmness prevailed in the area, especially in Salqin city and its surrounding villages”.

“We have asked local rebels to impose security and avoid joining opposition factions that have embraced all thieves and smugglers of Idlib,” al-Sayyid said. “But, they did not listen to us.”

“An immediate reconciliation is needed between the rebels and al-Nusra in Idlib,” he argued.
