Istanbul, Turkey – The Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) announced Monday that its fighters shot down an Iranian drone over Diyala province, in northeastern Iraq.
In a videotape released by pro-IS activists, the group’s militants announced shooting down an Iranian drone (type Shaheen) near the Iraqi-Iranian border city of Diyala.
In the meantime, the IS militant fighters were able to shoot down another warplane and capture the pilot in the area of Khudeira near Balad station, south of the city of Tikrit, pro-IS outlets reported, without specifying whether the warplane belongs to the U.S.-led international coalition or to the Iraqi Air Force.
The Islamic State group announced a few days ago shooting down a Jordanian fighter jet of the international coalition, arresting its pilot Muaz Kasasbeh, in the IS-held Raqqa province, in northeastern Syria.
