Suruc, Turkey – The defending forces of the embattled city of Kobane seized the strategic road of the village of Termik, in southern Kobane on Saturday, cutting off a major supply route of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS).
Speaking to ARA News on the phone, the leading member of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) Shoresh Dijlah said that the YPG –backed by the Peshmerga forces and the rebels of the Free Syrian Army (FSA)– “liberated the road leading to the village of Termik south of the city”.
“The YPG seized control of the entire area between Aleppo and Termik, through strategic operations on Saturday evening,” Dijlah added.
The same source pointed out that the YPG, by this operation, cut one of the most important supply routes used by the extremist group to receive reinforcements in Kobane.
The Media Center of the YPG confirmed the report that they had seized control of this strategic road in a statement issued on Saturday, pointing out that during the YPG military campaign they were able to liberate areas located between Aleppo and the village of Termik, by forcing IS militants to withdraw following intensive attacks.
The statement also confirmed the death of five members of the Islamic State group who were killed in clashes with the Kurdish fighters in the vicinity of Kanya Araban subdistrict.
The Islamic State was able to bring military reinforcements into Kobane during the last two months despite the intensive air strikes by coalition’s warplanes.
