Damascus, Syria – On Friday, Sheikh Abu Maria al-Qahtani, a military commander in the ranks of al-Nusra Front group (al-Qaeda branch in Syria) was reportedly wounded during clashes with pro-IS (Islamic State) gunmen in Daraa province, southern Syria.

Al-Nusra announced in a statement the injury of al-Qahtani.

“We ask God to preserve Sheikh Qahtani and wish him recovery,” the statement said.

“Sheikh Qahtani was injured during clashes between the Front and a number of armed fighters of al-Yarmook Brigade, which pledged allegiance to the radical group of the Islamic State,” the statement added.

Noteworthy, a number of military factions in Daraa province, including al-Nusra Front, have been combating al-Yarmook Brigade for weeks, after the later announced kidnapping family members of some al-Nusra fighters.
