Istanbul, Turkey – Khaled Khoja, Chief of the main opposition’s body of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC), said on Sunday that the coalition will be an “extensive national institution” in the next phase, assuring an inclusive governing system in the post-Assad era in Syria.

Khoja called on all Syrians to support the SNC, stressing that the coalition can derive its legitimacy only from the Syrian people.

In reference to the calls made by the Russian Foreign Ministry to opposition figures and pro-Syrian regime figures to join Moscow piece talks at the end of January, Khoja said: “We will not grant the regime more time or reproduce it under any banner; the Syrian scenery of death can only stop if we eliminate the Assad regime and the terrorist cells it has generated over the years.”

“There is no political solution until Assad’s departure We need to guarantee the dictator’s overthrow before planning a democratic future for Syria, Khoja added.

Khoja, who was elected as a president for the coalition after Hadi al-Bahra earlier this month, called on all revolutionary battalions to unite and coordinate with the Ministry of Defense in the SNC-led Syrian interim government, as a first step to establish a national army in Syria.
