Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan – Militant fighters of the Islamic State seized large quantities of chlorine gas following attacks against a major water facility in the province of Nineveh, northern Iraq, official sources reported.
IS militants controlled the chemical agent from the provincial water department and transferred it to a hideout in Nineveh, Iraqi local media quoted officials as saying.
The radical group is reportedly manufacturing rockets filled with chemical agents for use in operations against the Kurdish Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army.
“The Kurdish Peshmerga and other Iraqi forces should be cautious during the battles against the Islamic State. The radical group could use the chemical agents at any moment, especially in the current phase as the group is losing ground and its power is apparently dramatically decreasing,” Kurdish politician Khelil Hama told ARA News in Erbil.
