Tel Temir, Syria – The Sharia Court of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) in the countryside of Tel Temir in Hasakah province, northeast Syria, issued a verdict implying the release of 23 Assyrian hostages from the village of Tel Goran, who had been captured by the IS militants last Monday.
The IS group is currently holding more than 250 Assyrian civilians.
According to local sources, only one on the abductees has been released by IS so far. The hostage, Sargon David was freed on Saturday.
Fayez Korko, head of the Assyrian forces of Haras al-Khabur, told ARA News that the Assyrian military leadership has received information from mediators, stating that the Sharia Court of the Islamic State told them that the abductees from other villages will be prosecuted.
“We are trying to continue negotiations through mediators to guarantee the safety of the abductees, as most of them are women and children,” Korko said.
