Barrel bombs claim more lives in Aleppo

Qamishli, Syria – Pro-regime helicopters dropped several barrel bombs on neighborhoods of Aleppo, killing and injuring dozens of civilians, local activists reported on Monday.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, media activist Mohammed al-Halabi reported that at least five civilians lost their lives and a dozen others were injured when Syrian air force targeted with barrel bombs several neighborhoods held by armed opposition forces.

The attacks centered in Marjah, Kalasa, Qazi Askar, as-Salihin, Bab an-Nasr, Bustan al-Qasr, al-Lairamoun, al-Firdos, Ashrafiya and Bani Zeid in the city of Aleppo.

The source added that the pro-Assad helicopters also targeted several towns in Aleppo countryside, including Huraytan, Mansoura and Kafr Naha west of Aleppo.

“Additionally, Khan al-Asal district was hit with two barrel bombs, causing substantial damage to residential buildings,” al-Halabi told ARA News.

Meanwhile, the U.S.-led international coalition’s warplanes launched two airstrikes on strongholds of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) in the vicinity of Dabiq village north of Aleppo, killing a number of people.

ARA News could not verify the death toll among civilians in Dabiq’s attack. 

Also on Monday, the armed opposition forces launched missiles against regime-held areas of Aleppo, including Khalidiya neighborhood, Masharaqah and al-Shihan, causing large material damage to civilians’ properties.
