Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan – Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) condemned Turkish strikes on camps of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.

Massoud Barzani, President of Iraqi Kurdistan, denounced in a statement the recent Turkish airstrikes against PKK positions.

In a phone call with the Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu following the strikes, Barzani “expressed his displeasure with the dangerous level the situation has reached,” according to an official statement released on Saturday.

“He requested that the issue not be escalated to that level because peace is the only way to solve problems and years of negotiations are better than one hour of war,” Barzani said.

President Barzani emphasized that he made a lot of efforts in the past to coordinate a peace process between Turkey and the PKK leadership, adding he’s determined to continue these efforts until peace is reached between both sides.
