Damascus, Syria – Leader of the Islamic State radical group (IS/ISIL) has repeatedly sexually abused the American hostage Kayla Mueller before her death, U.S. officials told the victims family.

Mueller was reportedly exposed to sexual abuse several times by IS caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

“We were told Kayla was tortured, that she was the property of al-Baghdadi,” Mueller’s parents told ABC based on information provided by U.S. counter-terrorism officials.

The American aid worker, 26, was captured by the radical group in northern Syria in Summer 2013. Mueller was reported dead in February.

She began working with victims of the conflict in Syria for the humanitarian group Support to Life in 2012. Mueller disappeared after driving into the norther Syria city of Aleppo with her Syrian boyfriend and was captured along with several other aid workers in August 2013 while working at a hospital in Aleppo.

Why are you afraid to use the term “rape”? Does the phrase “sexual abuse” make it sound nicer?
