DAMASCUS – The extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS) has executed three Syrian young men in the ancient city of Palmyra on charges of spying for the regime forces, local sources reported on Saturday.

The militant group has beheaded the three men in front of a crowd of people in central Palmyra.

“The families of the victims had to watch their sons being brutally beheaded by ISIS,” an eyewitness told ARA News.

The victims were identified as Ahmed al-Shafi, Muhammad Swood and Ahmed al-Raheel.

“The three young men have been accused of spying for the Syrian regime. An ISIS militant read a statement before the beheading, saying the suspects have leaked security information about the group’s positions in Palmyra,” the source said.

In May, ISIS militants took over Palmyra city in central Syria following fierce battles with regime forces.

The group had earlier executed dozens of people in the ancient city after accusing them of communicating with regime forces.
