ALEPPO – At least 12 civilians were killed on Sunday in airstrikes by Syrian warplanes on the city of al-Bab in the northern countryside of Aleppo, activists reported.

Al-Bab has been under the control of the Islamic State group (ISIS) fore nearly two years.

“Syrian regime’s warplanes bombed the city with several airstrikes, killing at least 12 civilians, including three women and a child,” civil rights activist Omar Shallah told ARA News.

“Civil teams are still searching for victims under the rubble,” he said.

“There are several injured people in critical conditions. The death toll may rise in the coming hours.”

The source added that the Syrian airstrikes targeted residential buildings in central al-Bab.

“The pro-Assad fighter jets only targeted civilian buildings in Sunday’s operations. It hasn’t hit any ISIS positions in the city,” Shallah reported.
