URFA – The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has documented the death of 254 civilians, including 83 children and 42 women, within one month by Russian airstrikes in Syria.

“During October 2015, Russian warplanes carried out at least 57 airstrikes in Syria, while investigation continues for other attacks,” the network said in a report.

“52 attacks hit targets belonging to the armed opposition, 44 of them were civilian targets, while eight targets were military bases.”

“21 attacks carried out in Idlib, 15 more in Aleppo, five in Hama, three in Latakia, and eight others were Homs’ share,” the report added.

“Russian warplanes conducted five attacks in areas held by the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS), three of them in Aleppo, and two more in Homs,” the SNHR said.

The report documented the death of 265 people, including 254 civilians, 83 children and 42 women, in addition to 11 rebel fighters.

The network indicated that losses of the armed opposition were much greater than this mentioned number.

Large numbers of rebel fighters have been killed in Mount al-Akrad n Lattakia suburb and some areas of Hama, according to the report. But, the network was not able to access more details on the names of victims.

The report also documented Russian attacks on four medical facilities, two schools, four mosques, one shelter, two bakeries, three service institutions and an industrial facility.

A broad dossier documenting the Russian attacks over the past month was precisely prepared by the network. It was composed of details about airstrikes, witnesses, photographs and the areas came under Russian bombardment.

“Russia should respect the international law and human rights,” the Syrian Network for Human Rights concluded, calling on the international community to protect civilians and impose a no-fly zone in northern Syria.
